Blind Man Crossing
I am now to the point with my Spanish that I can make jokes and understand about 60% of what people are saying. It's so awesome!
We are teaching a guy in the area who has been smoking cigs his whole life. We asked if he would try stopping a day at a time. He hasn't smoked in five days and said he is feeling really good and a lot healthier. Man this is so cool to see peoples lives change!
Also - funny story - There was this blind man trying to cross the street, but couldn't because he couldn't see and the cars weren't stopping. I asked him if he wanted help and he said yes. My zone leader was hesitant and told me to wait, but I just helped him cross the street. After crossing back to my zone leader he was like you just left the mission! So I guess the other side of the street was out of our mission and I am not to leave the mission. Some times you have to do what is right and not follow the rules exactly! At the end of the day, my zone leader told me I did the right thing, so that was good. It's cool to go on exchanges because you get to learn how other people work and use their time!
Oh, I also went to the temple with my first convert. It was his first time doing baptisms for the dead! It was so cool! The night before we helped him with his family tree and his parents got all excited and wanted to help with their side of the tree. This is one way I have found to teach nonmembers and get them interested. Everyone loves their family and that's why this church is so dope because we can live with our family forever!
This week has been really busy. We had an activity for the mission where all the missionaries went to this stake center with some of their investigators and listened to our Mission President. We watched and listened to church music. It was cool, but funny because the Chileans were trying to sing in English and they don't know English. It was funny, but cute to see them try! I also saw Elder Ebeling and it was so great to talk to him and get advice from him.
This week I read a dope article about Iceland and the church there! Ever since I started fly fishing I have been interested in going there. Last summer one of my best friends went there and got pitted!!!! In the article I read about Iceland, it said that a lot of people there only speak Icelandic. Anyway, this convert of the church set out on a huge mission and translated the Book of Mormon in Icelandic. It took her a long time and lots of praying. It is crazy to see the faith some people have for this church.
The mission is all about a song by Imagine Dragons called Believer that says "seeing the beauty through the pain". This is my mission. The mission sucks most of the time, and there are like 200 crappy things in a day. Then, you teach someone about the Plan of Salvation and feel the Spirit really strong and I know that this is the right thing to be doing in my life!
The last two weeks have changed my whole perspective on my mission. I am starting to really like it and get into the groove of it! I really miss driving to Wyoming and fly fishing though or driving Irene up to Alta with all the boys on a deep powder day, but all these things will be there when I get home. For some reason, I feel like my mission is in sprint mode all ready and I don't have much time left. I have realized how valuable time is here and how we need to use the time we have to the best of our ability!!!
Finally, we had a strong earthquake here. All the boys talked about it at our meeting and were freaked out. I was mad I didn't feel it! Attached are some pictures at a soccer stadium!!!!!
Have a great week!
Elder Seager
